Ed Tyrie

Who am I?

My name is Ed Tyrie and I know a lot about stress. Thank you for visiting my website.

My working life has spanned more than 40 years in federal law enforcement and national protective security roles. In recent years I have had vital roles in helping co-ordinate Australia’s response to the September 11 attacks in the US in 2001, as Executive Director of the Protective Security Co-ordination Centre, as a member of the National Counter Terrorism Committee and as principal security advisor to the APEC taskforce in 2007. A very stressful career. How did I manage? I practised meditation. Meditation has helped me navigate my working and personal life for more than 30 years.

I came to meditation in the 1970s when I was under a great deal of stress and it was affecting my personal and professional relationships. I was advised to meditate to help me deal with a back injury, but I slowly realised that meditation was having far greater benefits for me. I was becoming calmer; I found a stillness inside that allowed me to deal with the stresses and challenges in my life. I have no doubt whatsoever that I would not have been successful without meditation.

I still get tense, but I know what to do with it. I am very much aware of the need to manage my life well, to ensure I remain calm, clear-headed, focused and aware, able to achieve objectives that may seem overwhelming and extremely stressful.

And the real beauty of meditation is that once you have the basic skills, you can do it anywhere any time.

Is meditation for everyone? Is it as effective as claimed? Just I did I am sure you will find the answer is "yes".

Meditation is refreshing, restorative, rejuvenating.
